Perthes disease affects about 1 in 10,000 children between the ages of 2 and 15 years. It causes damage to the femoral head and will usually heal with conservative treatment. Surgery may be required and there is the possibility of chronic arthritis. This may require treatment with painkillers that might affect platelet function.
